Let's get it started in here!

Heyhey everyone! I was told to start writing a blog, so I thought, why not do it about my biggest passion in the whole wide world...DRUMLINE!!! Yessir I am literally a drummer at heart, and I let it show everywhere - whether it be on the field, in the classroom, or even just on a table, you'll always hear me tapping!
This is a pic of me and some friends hiking the Goosenecks of the San Juan. Can you guess which one's me? :P

I Step Off For Her - A Tribute to Heather Christensen

"Whenever a great marching band takes the field, an unmistakable and unique energy runs through the stadium. This energy, as every band member knows, is the pure love and connection of family. No longer are these students individual players marching within a hundred yards of each other; they are one inseparable unit that the English language calls a band. This ragtag collection of flesh, blood, and metal suddenly is transformed into a single body that, like some breathing ocean, works in perfect unison and would do anything to protect any part of itself.

Heather proved that last night.

Stepping in and placing her family before herself, she bravely and willingly gave all to once again truly define what it means to be a member of the band; she acted above and beyond any individualized agenda to be the person that she knew she could be; and although the individual is gone, every time the AF Band takes the field, SHE WILL BE WITH THEM. Because of her, my friends live.

How to Forward March

1. Stand up on the floor, making sure there are at least 5 yards of clear space in front of you
2. Put your feet next to each other so your toes are touching and your heels are touching
3. Make your hands into fists and set them, palm against the front of your hips, so that your elbows are bent and in-line with your body
4. Stand completely straight, as if a string tied to the top of your head was pulling you up
5. Put your left foot out in front of you, heel barely in front of your right toes. Your heel should be touching the ground and your toes pointing as high as they can
6. Roll forward on your left foot. Right before your left toes touch the ground, your right heel should be off the ground (so your balancing on all but the toes of your left foot and all but the heel of your right foot)
7. Let the toes on your left foot touch the ground as you repeat steps 5-6 with your right foot
8. Repeat 5-7 while alternating the foot you start on

TIP: the goal with this style of marching is to keep your upper body from moving. While you're marching, try to keep anything above your waist as still as you can (try to...glide)
